{"id":731,"date":"2012-07-17T00:12:03","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T00:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/?p=731"},"modified":"2012-07-18T03:05:12","modified_gmt":"2012-07-18T03:05:12","slug":"an-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/?p=731","title":{"rendered":"The Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wild horses couldn&#8217;t tear me away.\u00a0 This thought lingered in my heart as I drove away from my childhood home once again.\u00a0 A summer visit of great significance, things were different this vacation.\u00a0 I witnessed the knitting of the north to my eldest two&#8217;s souls; and realized with their connection made, I was even more bound to this land, in as much as is possible while on this temporal earth.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Daddy watched the little ones and I took my ten year old daughter and eight year old boy to the island for a night.\u00a0 The creek runs through my folks bottom field.\u00a0 A couple miles down that creek is the lake and on that lake is the island.\u00a0 This was the island that I shared with girlfriends, and camped on independently of adults.\u00a0 Dad\u00a0 pulled my canoe gently over with his little motor boat and as the wind whipped my face I cried&#8230; spotting the island for the first time in years could have had something to do with it too.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe the sense of importance that filled my guts, I realized I was finally going to share some real BUSH adventure with my very own children.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3662b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-744\" title=\"IMG_3662b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3662b-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3662b-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3662b.jpg 656w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3641b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-745\" title=\"IMG_3641b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3641b-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3641b-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3641b.jpg 984w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once free of the ever helpful men we set to work.\u00a0 The old fire pit was repaired and filled.\u00a0 The tent put up and the canoe safely put on shore for our trip home.\u00a0 My children proudly went about doing chores that would have been greeted with &#8216;ohhh maaaaan&#8217; at home.\u00a0 Eager hands gathered dry fire starter branches and logs for the fire.\u00a0 The kettle was filled for tea, the pot was filled with stew and we all watched with glee as the fire burned strong and made us supper.\u00a0 As I expected the kids thought everything tasted so amazingly better then normal.\u00a0 Plates where licked clean and I watched in awe as they fought over who got to do clean up.\u00a0 So was the remainder of the trip, my children where able to find great joy in all the things needing done when camping.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3666b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-742\" title=\"IMG_3666b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3666b-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3666b-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3666b.jpg 984w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3669b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-739\" title=\"IMG_3669b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3669b-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3669b-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3669b.jpg 984w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Work quickly done by cheerful hands and we had time to swim before bed.\u00a0 How brave they where at trying rock ledge swimming, no beach here, just a deep swimming hole.\u00a0 Getting them out was more of a challenge once they realized how pleasant the water was.\u00a0 I believe they popped in and out of that swimming whole at every opportunity for the rest of the trip!<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3690b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-741 aligncenter\" title=\"IMG_3690b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3690b-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3690b-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/www.ladymacblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/IMG_3690b.jpg 656w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wpGallery mceItem\" style=\"text-align: left;\" title=\"gallery\">Daddy and the little ones arrived for lunch the next day and then Garnet and I packed up our four kids, camp gear, and our selves of course, into one faithful Canadian tire canoe.\u00a0 The return voyage was very successful.\u00a0 No tipping and even some sing along as we paddled and practiced &#8216;I&#8217;ll Fly Away&#8217;
