The Curlers

These three dainty little photographs of my teeny tiny four year old tug at my heart. She is so sweet and pretty and full of joy in them.

When I put them in she was thrilled and apparently thought the curlers where the hair style itself. “I look beautiful!” she exclaimed as the last curler when in.

“Oh honey you leave them in till your hair is dry and then you take them out so you can see the curls.” I explained.

She looked at me very seriously and responded “Oh.” I could tell she was a little disappointed at the idea of removing the strikingly red curlers… “They match my dress.” she said.

All was saved when I suggested a little photo shoot while they where still in. I have to admit, I suggested this partially to cheer her up but also for my own pleasure. I couldn’t get over how cute she looked with all her hair up in curlers. In the end she took them out too soon and her hair was full of body but not curly… and yet that didn’t matter to me. We had such fun together doing this and she was so sweet in the curlers the result didn’t matter. I know for sure we will try this again, since she is such an agreeable little patron.

(I have to point out my dear four year olds cheeks! She has always had the sweetest and plumpest cheeks.)

Beep

My four year old and her girl friend are talking.
My girl says “My heart is not beeping.”
Her friend replies “My heart is still beeping.”

My girl “No, your heart gets beeping when you run fast so calm down and it will not beep.”

The Ear and Define Hollow!

LITTLE WOMAN–‘Don’t brush my ear Mom.’
MOM–‘I will watch out for it.’
LITTLE WOMAN–‘Mom what is in my ear?’
MOM–‘Wax.’
LITTLE WOMAN–‘And??’
MOM–‘A drum that sound bounces off so you can hear.’
LITTLE WOMAN–‘And??’
MOM–‘A tube.’
LITTLE WOMAN–‘What is a tube?’
MOM–‘It is like a straw. Long and round and hollow.’
LITTLE WOMAN–‘OH HOLLOW! I know hollow! Some people sing it.’
MOM–‘What do you mean?”
LITTLE WOMAN– (breaking into song at this point) ‘Hollow lu la, hollow lu la!’
MOM–‘He he he… no honey that is hallelujah.’
LITTLE WOMAN– ‘Oh… right.’

I conversation this morning as I did her hair.

Christmas Cereal

A little less enduring and sentimental then my ‘Christmas milk’ story, but no less cute is the kids favorite new find for the holidays. We where in desperate need of some cereal around here and I decided to be a little more relaxed at the grocer by way of letting my four year old choose what we got this week. As soon as Little Woman spotted the multicolored (green and red) crispy rice cereal I knew there was no going back on my promise. We would, indeed, be eating festive rice crispies that taste very much like regular rice crispies, besides the extra food dye flavor, for the whole week!

As soon as we arrived home Little Woman and Baby Boy teamed up on me and insisted we MUST test them for lunch, to make sure the big kids would like them. As usual the listening to the crispy rice was fun and we all giggled that they where saying ‘eat me, eat me’ because, of course, that is always what rice crispies say in our house. The taste… well you would think they where eating food meant for a king. Both ate it up as fast as possible oohing and aahing between spoon fulls and Little Woman insisted ‘these Christmas cereals are lovely!’ Lovely indeed! I say my children and their sweet little worlds of color and joy are even more lovely… lovely enough to win me over on this cereal… I suppose it will be one of our little special traditional treats year after year now.

I Have A Parrot

(Helping himself to a snack.)

Mom – ‘Riddick down. Silly dog’
BABY BOY – ‘Silly dog?’
Mom – ‘Yup. Come with me Quade.’
BABY BOY – ‘Come with me?’
Mom – ‘Yup, I want to change your diaper.’
BABY BOY – ‘Change diaper?’
Mom – ‘He he he, yup. Are you my parrot?’
BABY BOY – ‘Carrot?… No, I want banana!’

Lightning Love

Baby Boy’s Lightning McQueen looks like he got a new paint job! He was pretty banged up from love earlier this week and now look at that shine!

Well, Baby Boy took his favorite car everywhere he went and one day he didn’t return home with him. After two days of my two year old’s sad song we got him a new car and a buddy, Mater! Who can listen to ‘Where my Libning McBeen? I liiiiiiike Libning…’ for longer really! Baby Boy isn’t into a lot of toys, all he really enjoys is spity noises while he drives his Lightning McQueen around so if I have to make this little car reappear a few times in Baby Boys life time I will.

Christmas Milk

A delightful and quiet evening with just the kids, the dog and us at home.
A cute cartoon for them to enjoy,
A big blanket for all four kids, and the dog, to share snuggles under.
A special intermission of ‘Christmas milk and gingersnaps’.
A collection of Christmas milk mustaches for mommy to clean off before the movie starts again.
A sweet child of mine exclaiming ‘as soon as we finish this Christmas milk we must get more!’

I just adore that they call Eggnog ‘Christmas milk’ and hope it is our families own little name for it for years to come.

One Piece (Sing To The Lord)

Take the time to sing, take the time to rejoice!

I am still trying to take in all I was blessed with this morning at the ladies study I attend. A piece of it rang out in my heart as clear as a bell and so I want to share it with you. Through out my Christian walk I have known beyond a shadow of a doubt that is more about being in Jesus then doing for Jesus. There are ways to amerce ones self in the Lord deliberately and it must be undertaken daily to live successfully for the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The leader of our study was sharing different ways David was able to keep his heart soft toward God, through years of suffering and waiting. One of the ways was music. He was a very musical man and it was a direct connection between him and God. Singing out to the Lord is a way to deliberately amerce ones self in Jesus.

It is so hard to hold on to the ugly stuff that collects like thick sticky dust in ones heart when one forces ones self to sing. There in is the easy connection between singing and rejoicing made!

This message connected perfectly with something my kids had taught me months before. ‘Just sing Mommy. We like it when you sing. You are happy singing.’ was a comment from my daughter. ‘Sing with me!’ has been a common plea of hers. I have sang so little for so long I didn’t know where to start. Much to my surprise they had a song in mind and taught me my grandmothers favorite little chorus anew.

It isn’t much of a song, simple that is, but It has a way of coming easily to my mind and easily from my lips… no effort really… and I have started kick starting my day with this song and its sweet little reminder.

THIS IS THE DAY

This is the day
This is the day
That the Lord has made
That the Lord has made
We will rejoice
We will rejoice
And be glad in it
And be glad in it
This is the day that the Lord has made
We will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day
This is the day
That the Lord has made.

Pedicures for My Girls

(See the heart? Cute!)

Seed was planted when I read a fellow blogger’s post about her girls playing SPA. Memory was triggered by my sister asking if I wanted to get a pedi done with her. I realised I had bought a pedi set a while back to share with my girls and hadn’t broke it in yet!
Last night was the night! Big Boy was at his grandparents, Baby Boy was stuck to Daddy (shadowing him all over the house) so Big Girl and Little Woman and I had a spa night!

It is a lot of work, by the way! Basins filled with warm water for the minty foot soak and all the other supplies to gather up, spa music selected and put on for mood, girl-y magazines to add to the feel and I felt ready to pamper them.

They soaked for 15 minutes and then I used a sea salt scrub thingy on their feet, but they where so ticklish it was a short scrub. Enjoyed the laughter though!

Once their feet where pretty and clean I set up the nail station. Nails where trimmed and cleaned.
Choosing color for their toes was by far their favorite part!

When it was all done their little toes looked so cute together! Big Girl went with a pattern of the blue and pink and Little Woman just wanted blue.

Waiting for the paint to dry was worth it! Once finished Daddy said they smelled like mint-y cake. They couldn’t help smelling their feet off and on for the rest of the evening. “Mmmmm, my feet smell like pizza.” insisted Little Woman, she says everything smells like pizza lately.

Spa night worked out great! They where quiet and relaxed the whole time (other then the giggling out bursts during the sea salt scrub) and it really mellowed them out for the rest of the night.

Busy fussing with them, my toes remain unpainted and I do not have clean soft feet that smell like mint-y cake… BUT my spa treatment was to put the crew to bed and sit down to a cup of tea, some treats just for Mommy and a post card from my oldest sister to read. All in all a lovely girls night!

Impress Myself

I truly impress myself sometimes!
Especially if I have impressed my kids!

No crafting queen here, but now and then I get an idea that bugs me till I try it out and it usually ends up being a little crafty thingy. Usually it involves a wee bit of sewing, and I do mean a wee bit! Rarely does the big machine get pulled out, I am far more enticed by my adorable sewing basket (my Mom gave it to me when I was a little girl) and a simple needle and thread in hand.

The project I am sharing with you today made me beam with pride only because of my sons reaction. After getting frustrated about all the hole-y socks around this house I decided I didn’t think it was fair to waste the ankle piece of the sock just because the toes always go! With a snip those sad socks where cut in two and the top was simple sewn into a wrist band. Big Boy was particularly impressed because his bands had ‘Lightning McQueen’ and ‘Spider-man‘ on them. When I realised he had started wearing them to school, without mentioning it, I was thrilled but the day he came up with another hole-y sock in hand I felt like super mom. Like a gentleman he simple said ‘Mom, when you have some time, I would like some more of your wrist bands please.’ Oh you bet I made it for him as soon as I could!

More hole-y socks show up on my desk by the day!
