Thanking God The Dishwasher Broke!

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

~Romans 12: 9-12~ (Authorized KJV)

I recall a line from a quote, meant to be inspirational, that goes something like this, ‘be grateful for dirty dishes for they mean your family is feed’.   This little blurb has been coming to mind a lot more of late… as my dishwasher has been broken for months now.

Summer Past

Ah yes summer was had by all 🙂  It was warm and delightfully slow.  We got a great big pool and the kids lived in a tent all summer long.  The ‘not so annual’ ladies tea was back on after a summer off last year and all four kids got tanned and taller.  This was also a summer of ‘not knowing’ in many areas of life.  I will touch on the most personal one pertaining to our immediate family.

soccer mom, cheer leader… who naps at the side lines ;)

Where did May go?  Swallowed up by the craziness of sport… soccer to be exact.  I just thank the Lord we set limits years ago.  Fall the girls can pick AN activity and then spring is the boys turn.  Still, with just the boys in soccer it has been a five to six nights a week gig.

Sewing, Gummy Worms and Saving Old School Wisdom cuz It is Still Wisdom!

We had a weekend of spring fun all planned out, soccer practice, work in the yard… and then a spring snow storm arrived bring a serious damper on our plans.  Snow storms in spring are much like a rainy day in summer, faces get pouty and moods can get antsy, thus this mom declared a crafting day!

Feeding the Birds

My eldest son came home very excited about a school project that made a simple and quick bird feeder.  The crafting table was set up and we decided to encourage and help the little chickadees specifically.  These adorable chubby birds stay here all winter and must be hungry.

Bed Time is A Crisis

It was well past his bedtime, so late Mom was ready to crawl into her own bed for the night.  Unlike the stubborn little guy pouting in the hall Mom was more then ready for this time of the day.  All the main floor lights were shut down and she was determined to get that frustrating littlest man into bed then find her own before she fell asleep on her feet.  She walked up stairs intentionally stomping to give him a serious hint about how serious she was about him returning to his bed. Studies & Bike Abouts

Sometimes I open my text book and I panic.  The thought bursts into my mind that I AM TOO OLD TO LEARN… to be more accurate, the thought is more complex and more like I HAVE BEEN A MOM FOR 13 YEARS AND HAVEN’T HAD TO STUDY IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE AND MIGHT NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS ANY MORE!  I am sure many parent’s (at home full time and not) have thought parenthood has shrunken or (my personal favourite descriptive) melted ones brain!  Or perhaps it is just me (insert d’oh and frowny face here).  Mom is gonna carry on though… set an example for the kids… and all that such stuff… but first I close the text book after I have panicked and go for a bike ride. The Grumpy Family and Loving Us All Through It!

Who knew being excited and happy could be so exhausting?!  After living here for a little over three months I realise we have a lot more adjusting to go through and although we are so thrilled to have moved we are also strained by it. Continue reading →

The Cat

What can make my children, especially the girls, suddenly more then eager to walk the dog?  A cat, but of course.

Napping in the Park

If I could bottle such days and replay them when ever and where ever I please I would bottle last Saturday.  Pyjama day till noon, an enthusiastic trip to the library (proof I have a house full of lit lovers), toboggan rides in a warm sun on a slick hill and then the icing on the cake… a nap in the park!
