Singing A Song Even In Winter

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

~Anne Bradstreet~

Winter entices us all to remain more in doors, and rewards us with a sense of courage when we go out.

Winter gives us all a good reason to slow down and enjoy solitude, while also giving us an opportunity to really feel loneliness if we aren’t careful how much we sit in silence.

Winter brings out child like joy at the arrival of the first snow fall, and can push the older hearts to grumble as it lingers on.

Christmas is in winter.

Christmas gives the darkest time of year a chance to shine.

The lights, the love, the community; when found Christmas warms one to the middle no matter what the thermometer reads.

For Grandma Hicks

Our Advocate

Tonight I partook in a special service about the ascension of Christ.  Although it is a traditional Thursday night service, that has been celebrated by the organized church for a long time, this is my first time attending such a service.  The gathering of the Body tonight reminded me of my awe; awe at the fact that we have an advocate before the all consuming fire we call God.

Families Be At Peace This Holiday:)

Peace be unto all, especially your families. Be nice to each other this holiday season! As my mom always used to say, ‘If you can’t be nice to your (enter brother, sister, mother, grandpa, in-laws etc.) then treat them like acquaintances instead of relations!’

And with that, enjoy some lyrics from a favourite band of mine. This Christmas song of theirs has really been a blessing to me this year.

“Christmas lights tangle in knots annually
All families huddle closely
Betting warmth against the cold
All the bruises seem to surface Like mud beneath the snow

So we sing carols softly
As sweet as we know A prayer that our burdens will lift as we go
Like young love still waiting under mistletoe
We’ll welcome December with tireless hope

Let our bells keep on ringing
Making angels in the snow
And may the melody disarm us When the cracks begin to show

Like the petals in our pockets
May we remember who we are
Unconditionally cared for By those who share our broken hearts

~Sleeping At Last ‘SNOW’

What I Am Listening to Right Now

Music can bring you back in time, to the point in your life that you first enjoyed specific songs or artists. And so I decided to try to record on here, more often, what I am listening to… obviously the stuff I am liking.

Fernando Ortega “Come Down Oh Love Divine”

-A beautiful spiritual piece of art, so soothing.

The Civil Wars “Barton Hollow”

-Delicate vocals with a oh so real roots-y sound.

Favorite Delusion

We all like to think we are in control… we think this idea is what carries us through the day, how we cope…

We are so fragile, we are so diluted if we think we are in control.

There are those of us who have been painfully awaken, all naivety removed, as the control is so obviously taken from our grasp…we find our way through the day, we cope, with Christ’s strength.

“It’s out of my hands

There’s nothing I can do

The best laid plans

Again have fallen through

I thought my world

Was under my command

Now I can’t believe

Just how glad I am

It’s out of my hands

My favourite delusion

I must control the universe

Failure brings freedom

You are God, and I’m not so…”

Recording Together

Lady Mac an Rothaich is what Garnet is calling our newest, updated, version of our first song recorded together; Fairest Lord Jesus. Click HERE to check it out. We have come a long way from our first rough draft of the song and Garnet did a beautiful job. He is very very excited about all the possibilities and I am happy to be doing music with my man.

This Families Music (My Brother)

LETS GET A LITTLE HEAVIER with my brothers music style!

Victoria Awake

My older brother has been doing music for years! He has done a lot of stuff on his own and has been in a few different bands. His current VICTORIA AWAKE is the group featured on this video. Aaron (my brother) does the vocals in this song and Mike is the guitarist you are seeing.

I greatly appreciate this kind of music just as much as the milder stuff that you will have noticed featured in this little project of mine, in earlier posts. It is fun, it is creative and it is his so I like it!
