Winter Thumbs Up

A cold has kept me stuck at home for almost two weeks, voiceless for the last week, and while colds are one of my least favorite things about winters set in, there are many other things worthy of a double thumbs up.  Thumbs up is my youngest child’s favorite way to express pure pleasure in the littlest of things. I have collected my current top five winter wonderfuls, in no particular order, to share.

Winters clear and for sure settling upon the land wouldn’t be complete without that fresh look to a shoveled out driveway.  It speaks of victory over the elements… Or at least a job well done.  The kids turn the mounds of snow into a double thumbs up by digging their first snow fort, it is more of a tunnel passage from the pushed off patio to the back yard but it is delightful.

Smartwool socks, the sock that replaces all slippers, let alone others socks.  I am instantly in pampered mode when I slip them on.  Cozy enough to sleep in… This says a lot coming from myself, a dedicated sock avoider.  Thumbs up!

And thumbs up for how much better chai tea and shortbread taste in the winter.  I am particularly thrilled with these big soft ones from a popular stores bakery.  They are so good I don’t desire to spend a small fortune on butter to make my own.

Christmas lights, to brighten up the longer nights.  We all know how encouraging they can be.  This year we have added two deer lawn light ornaments to our cheery collection.  Two thumbs up for the light they bring and time found to sit and gaze at them!

Finally, how the warm inside of the bus greets you.  My youngest and I have become public transit users and are loving the extra conversations we get traveling this way.  There is also the thrill of avoiding driving and parking ourselves when the roads are wintery catastrophes.  But most of all, the two thumbs up feeling arrives every time the bus pulls up to our stop.  As we climb on we are greeted with a warm dry place to escape winter. It is like being rescued every single time :). We refrain from hugging ever bus driver, but always always thank them!!

Winter is here so find the blessings only this season has to offer!  Oh, and Merry Christmas of course!!

My thumbs up this time of the year goes to my wood stove and a cup of tea. Our office heater is not working too well yet and the electric heaters only just keep the place bearable. When I get home each night and walk into the house to the lovely wood stove belting out that incredible heat and I sit down to a lovely cup of tea I feel so cozy and warmed up. I also like the lights on the outside Christmas tree shining a welcome as I come down the road into the yard. The snow is just beautiful and especially so from the inside through the new windows in the house. Love Mom.

Considerate and polite comments are always welcomed.
