Prairie Summer So Brief

Summer was honestly a blur… a blur composed of an often unbalanced mix of study and play…the kids and I trying to daily work on our French and still make time to take hold of that delicious summer freedom.

The four kids, Riddick the smooth fox terrier and myself found our way north to visit my folks, but mostly tried to make our town OUR TOWN…we bought a pool and daily splashed away, family bike rides and walks were common place as we tried to grab hold of this beautiful landscape and make it our own.  My man and I even managed to responsibly work on our new home and its many needs.

The trip north was as important as ever.  It is good to be in the forest of my childhood and to take part in what is still the kids grandparents world.  Coming home held something very unexpected too.  This was the first time I have returned to our TOWN after a long trip.  No city traffic, just a grid road short cut was the last leg of our return trip.  As we spotted our town, which is easy to see pretty far off (such a prairie thing), I got tears in my eyes.  I was really happy to get back to my prairie home… We are changing as a family as we grow into the townie life style, we are changing as individuals and it is such a good feeling to understand and like the changes.

I can not remember a more disciplined summer as we worked our hearts out in hopes of being a part of a new community largely through connecting with their language, their culture, their school. We have been here over six months now and my crew has been in school for over a month now… looking back I am thankful for the effort we put in this summer and so glad to have the hope and faith we held on to through summer blossoming from believing to seeing as each day my kids walk to their school, in their town, just down the street from our home.

A glorious summer is heading into a glorious autumn and we have a lot to be thankful for… this community will be ours as we put in the time and effort.  I am so glad to be here, right here, where we are…  our RIGHT HERE is unexpected, still new and different from anything we have ever ventured into before.  Our RIGHT HERE is home for this little family of mine.
