And So We Wait For Christmas

It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air. ~W.T. Ellis
Let Christmas not become a thing
Merely of merchant’s trafficking,
Of tinsel, bell and holly wreath
And surface pleasure, but beneath
The childish glamour, let us find
Nourishment for soul and mind.
Let us follow kinder ways
Through our teeming human maze,
And help the age of peace to come
From a Dreamer’s martyrdom.
~Madeline Morse

P.S. The kids are having a hard time understanding how long this waiting will last and I didn’t feel inspired by the chocolate boxed advent calendars I saw when shopping… looking for something we can use every year so it has some tradition to it… any ideas where we could find something?

we have a big snowman with 24 pockets that my mom picked up at a craft fair. the pockets are big enough to tuck surprises and treats inside, and there’s a snowflake that the kids move to count down the sleeps ’til Christmas.

i’ve also seen wooden ones [i think ten thousand villages had one] and it’s the same idea, but with little drawers to open.

you’re so crafty that you could make one with little boxes. 😉

Hollie just told me about the exact calender that e describes here with the snowman, yesterday, when I went for my haircut. Love MOM

  3. Got a beautiful Advent box with individual doors at Home Outfitters last year and I love it. We picked our own items, items that coincide with a decoration we put on the tree that same day and have an applicable verse to read and song to sing for each day. I tweak and improve on it each year, but we really LOVE our advent celebrations.
