‘Chili Needs Cheese’ and ‘Corner Store Movies’

Did you know you can still rent movies at the corner store?  Well we can!  Good thing too, with no cable and all the channels digital (thus inaccessible for us) the big movie store names disappearing faster then I would have said “When did that happen?”, we are pretty limited at our house.

Supper was late, I was so busy puzzling that I forgot to start it on time.  Once the chili was on the stove, stewing away, It occurred to me that we had no cheese to grate on top of it.  I can’t imagine truly enjoying my spicy chili without melted sharp cheese on top…   Yes we live in the city and could just drive to the closest grocery store… but no, no one wanted to… The corner store popped in to my mine and then the idea of getting cheese sounded like a fun mini adventure and not a stressful inconvenience (in and out of a city grocery store is a fairy tale at best).

Suddenly all the moaners wanted to come with!  The oldest two kids and I got geared up (it was a very chilly night…no pun intended ), put Riddick’s doggy jacket on, and hiked to the corner of our crescent to seek cheese at the neighbourhood convenience store (what my kids call the candy store… they still have 5 cent candies there).

The large selection of rental movies caught my eye as I grabbed the cheese from the dairy cooler.  Wow, there was lots of stuff there we hadn’t seen yet and rental was only 1.65.  The kids were fist pumping when I re-emerged with more then just cheese.  “FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT,” they announced to our neighbourhood with their enthusiastic cries!

The short walk back was quick enough to be enjoyable, the house was warm and the chili was stewed to perfection when we burst through the back door.  My puzzle sat, still waiting, we had a sudden family night with the bonus of finding a movie and the ease of getting this emergency errand done; all of which made me feel like dancing!

Such a fun little family night, just popping up out of know where really, felt like such a win.  I wanted to fist pump about the ease that my little neighbourhood store brought to our night.  I am thankful for little things that turn nights of not much into a big thing, FUN!

Wow! The time sure flies when one is doing a puzzle eh. I find this so relaxing and pleasant. The only thing better would be good company to help and visit. Love you all, Mom.
